The jury found Arias guilty of first-degree murder in the death of her ex-boyfriend, Travis Alexander, in May of 2013, but the jury could not reach a unanimous decision on life or death for Arias. The judge declared a mistrial.

On March 5, the judge again declared a mistrial. The jurors were 11-1 on the death penalty. Because they could not reach an unanimous decision, the judge will decide life in prison or life in prison with the possibility for parole after 25 years. The sentencing hearing will be in mid-April.
