PHOENIX (CBS5/AP) -

The search continues for a man who escaped a Phoenix jail eight months ago by impersonating another inmate and used the same trick to escape a Michigan jail recently.

Rocky Delgado Marquez, 34, was taken into custody earlier this month in Detroit and was awaiting extradition to Arizona, U.S. Marshals Service officials said.

U.S. Marshals said investigators believe Marquez may be with Catherine Cano, 49, and her three children. Cano lived in the home where Marquez was arrested in Detroit. Authorities have issued a warrant for Cano's arrest, for harboring a fugitive.

U.S. Marshal Chief Deputy Fidencio Rivera said that Marquez escaped from Wayne County Jail in Detroit using the same method he did in Maricopa County Jail. He was in custody on federal charges.

Marquez originally was arrested in September 2010 on suspicion of perjury, influencing a witness, forgery, felony criminal damage, misconduct involving weapons, driving under the influence, failure to stop and misdemeanor criminal damage.

The charges stemmed from an incident in which Marquez was allegedly driving under the influence and struck a parked car. Marquez attempted to flee from the scene before the police arrived, Hershey said. Upon their arrival, Phoenix police officers arrested Marquez and located a weapon in his vehicle, U.S. Marshals Service authorities said.

Marquez is also facing federal charges. He's suspected of conspiracy to commit money laundering and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

He escaped from the Lower Buckeye Jail in May. His escape prompted a statewide manhunt involving numerous law enforcement agencies across the Valley. Marquez was able to elude capture and after seeking temporary refuge here in Arizona, ultimately fled the state to avoid prosecution.

Marquez is a Hispanic man, 5'9'' tall, weighing about 180 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He has a faded tattoo on the left side of his neck that reads "Sabrina" in cursive writing, along with a black tattoo of a religious image with "Rocky Jr." in cursive writing below it, on his left shoulder.

Cano is described as a 5'4'' tall, 174-pound Hispanic female with brown hair and brown eyes.

Marquez is considered armed and dangerous. If you see him, you're urged to call 911.
